The U17 Girls Soccer team wrapped up their season with back to back victories. The girls grabbed their first gold of 2009 at the Kitikmeot Regional’s, going undefeated all weekend, which earned them a spot in the 2009 Territorial’s. The tournament was set up in a double round robin and the girls had to play 5 games to make it to the championship game to face the girl’s soccer team from the Baffin region on Sunday night. Both teams had tired legs from playing all weekend on the new large turf playing field laid out on the town’s hockey arena but they gathered up all the strength they could to put on a nail beating final match. The game went into two over time halves but with no goals scored in over time the game was left to a shoot out. Vikki Niptanatiak stood on her head in net allowing in only two goals while Suzi Power, Katie Atatahak, Carmen Aviak and Shelia buried their shot in the back of the net to help secure a victory.
